Today, Thursday February 6, 2020, all the Old boys, the pupils, friends and well-wishers and all those who had and still have one thing or the other to do with Birch Freeman High school are with a gladsome mind thanking and praising the Lord for HE is kind, for HIS mercies endures forever and HE is ever faithful and ever sure. Indeed, today is a very special day in the history of our Alma Mater – Birch Freeman High school, Surulere, Lagos. Mr. Governor, Hon. Commissioner, your Eminence, your Graces, all the Distinguished personalities here present, on behalf of all my fellow old boys and our pupils I am happy to announce to you that our school is Sixty (60) years Old (today). Up School, Up BIFOBA , Up BIFOBA , Up School.
Anybody who attains the age of Sixty years in this country whether a natural person or an institution has cause to celebrate. That is why we the old boys, pupils and teachers of this great institution are celebrating and have also invited you all who did not pass out of BFHS to come and celebrate with us. We thank all of you our dear guests for coming. God bless you.

We want to say that we are proud of our past and we look at the future with courage and great optimism. We say this because we are condent that our Alma Mater will continue to praise the Lord in the land of the living and take its rightful place in the Community of excellent schools in Lagos State and indeed in Nigeria.
Today, we are happy to commission our Auditorium and name it in honour of our rst principal and turn the sod in preparation for the construction of the IT. Center to be donated by an old boy. We are also branding our buildings and other structures. We are happy to have in our midst the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, his Archbishops and all other priests here present. Your presence here today inside the Auditorium built by the old boys and named after our rst Principal, Amb. Obong M. J. Etuk gladdens our hearts. We have always wanted to pay tribute to our rst principal, a man of destiny and a true patriot. A devoted and consummate teacher and a disciplinarian who moulded the school to the path of greatness. We thank the Methodist Church for seconding Obong M. J. Etuk to us to be the rst principal of our dear school. May God in his innite mercy grant peace to his soul.
I like to recognize and appreciate Chief Ademola Olayeye the man who was there when it all began, ne Art teacher, Vice Principal and third Principal who instilled discipline in us. The fear of 'Laye' was the beginning of wisdom. We thank you dear sir for your fatherly love in moulding us into what we are today, some of us mistook your love for cruelty in those days. Now with the benet of hind sight, we know better and we appreciate you.
We thank all the past principals, vicethe years, and teachers who have over the years held sway and made Birch Freeman High School what it is today. We also want to thank all past Presidents of BIFOBA and all other ofcers and indeed all members of BIFOBA particularly, our own Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), former Governor of Lagos State for committing their time, talent and treasure to the development of our Alma Mater. We pray that now that we have come of age, we will be able to achieve even more than we have done in the past.
I hereby call on all members of BIFOBA to rise up and be more united and more determined to give more to our Alma Mater. Let us not ask for what we can get but what we can give. Let us always remember that the hand of the giver is always on top. Let us never forget that we were trained for duty and for THEE (GOD).
We shall pursue our desire to produce a modern gate for our Alma Mater. The Gate was to be commissioned today but due to circumstances beyond our control and in our desire to produce the very best, we shall shift the commissioning of the Gate to our Home Coming. We plead with the Government to accept our partnership proposal and permit our guided commercial use of our Auditorium so that together we shall maintain our Alma Mater and never again shall our school be left to decay.
We thank the Prelate who is the grandfather of the school and members of his entourage for sparing their time to be here to celebrate their grand child who has come of age, our amiable Mr. Governor and his team, our distinguished guests, parents, donors, advertisers, my fellow old boys and all those who have made this day possible. My special thanks go to members of the Committee headed by Mr. Olise – Emeka Nwachukwu, MAP Team all the way from London for their hard work and unrelenting spirit which ensured that this event take place. May God bless all of you.
Please relax and celebrate this happy occasion with us.
Happy Birthday Birch Freeman High School Lagos.
Long live Birch Freeman High School, Long Live BIFOBA
Up School, Up BIFOBA.
